Our CASA Offering Mentoring Parenting Support Services (COMPASS) program is a new parenting program that will provide services to parents whose children are in CYFD custody in Bernalillo county as well as parents who are working with CYFD in-home services to help prevent separation of the family due to substance use or addiction-related issues. The parent will be assigned to a Parent Coach. The Parent Coach will provide case management services to their assigned parent. A Parent Coach will provide mentoring and support to parents as they work to improve their parenting practices and overcome their addiction issues during substance use treatment and recovery, while also advocating and encouraging services to strengthen the parent’s relationship with their child. The COMPASS Program offers an evidenced-based parenting class called Nurturing Parenting for Families in Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery Program.

The NM Kids Matter Inc. Infant and Toddler Coordinator

The NM Kids Matter Inc. Infant and Toddler Coordinator is an early childhood specialist positioned in the organization as part of the COMPASS program. This program engages community members and families in the special developmental goals and needs of children affected by abuse; the Infant and Toddler Coordinator creates an extra focus on the needs of the youngest children in the child welfare system. The program provides specific training for volunteer CASAs who advocate for the children and families, as well as parenting classes for caregivers to develop nurturing skills, and community building with early childhood service providers in Bernalillo county.
