What difference do you feel you have made in a child’s life?
I feel I’ve only made a small impact on my children’s lives, but small acts can lead to big changes overtime. Specifically at few key moments I was able to be a connection that my children needed in order to move to making better decisions about they lives.
“One sentence” about why others should advocate? Why should others be child advocates?
In the process of helping youth, you get the opportunity to meet and engage with individuals you might not normally who’ve had experience that you haven’t; learn something while you help why don’t ya?
You can make such a big difference in the trajectory of a child’s life simply by caring and being present, why wouldn’t you?
How have you grown because of this experience (of being a child advocate)?
I was on jury duty many years ago for a case involving a parent accused of raping a child repeatedly and routinely. In some way, being a CASA and helping these young people, I have gained some small amount of closure surrounding my experience and memories of this case and this individual child. I wasn’t able to help or prevent the incidents that happened to this young person, but I can try to help other youth in similar situations.
