Celebrate Family Reunification

June is National Reunification Month

National Reunification Month is celebrated in June of each year to recognize the hard work and determination of parents to bring their children home safely from foster care. It is also a time to recognize the many people who provide support to each important member of the families, parents, and children. Many families in New Mexico struggle with poverty, mental health issues, substance use issues, homelessness, and/or access to healthcare. These realities often create obstacles for families and lead to the involvement of state agencies and the judicial system.

Simply being involved in a legal case is stressful and scary. Add to that, the horrifying concept of having one’s children taken out of their home and placed in a foster home where one may only be able to speak with them or see them once a week. While horrifying, it is often necessary. In cases such as this, there are many roles that convene upon the family to help build a support structure – judges, CYFD workers, attorneys, social workers, therapists, CASA volunteers, interpreters, doctors, law enforcement, and more.

For the first time since the global pandemic, we are pleased to be organizing an in-person carnival party to celebrate reunified families and all of those who have had a hand in these success stories. Please join us for the 2023 Reunification Celebration! Details are below:

CASA is not your typical volunteer role.

That’s okay.
